Student visa application costs

When applying for a student visa to study in Australia, several costs need to be considered, and these costs can vary significantly depending on whether you are applying alone, with a partner, or with a partner and children.

1. Visa Application Charges (VACs)

 

As of July 2024, the costs for applying for a Student Visa (subclass 500) are the following: 

  • Base Application Charge: AUD 1,600

  • Additional Applicant (18 years and older): AUD 1,190

  • Additional Applicant (under 18 years): AUD 390

These charges apply to each individual included in the visa application. 

 
2. Health Insurance

International students are required to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of their visa in Australia. The cost of OSHC varies depending on the insurance provider and the length of visa:

  • Single Policy: Approximately AUD 600 per year

  • Couple Policy: Approximately AUD 3,500 per year

  • Family Policy: Approximately AUD 6,000 per year

3. English Language Tests

If you need to demonstrate your English proficiency, you may need to take an approved English language test. Standard tests and their approximate costs are:

  • IELTS: AUD 350–400

  • TOEFL iBT: AUD 300–350

  • PTE Academic: AUD 340

 

4. Medical Examinations

Some applicants might be required to undergo a medical examination, the cost of which varies by country and provider but generally ranges from:

  • Medical Examination: AUD 300–500

 

5. Other Associated Costs

 

  • Document Translation and Certification: If your documents are not in English, you may need to pay for translation and certification services. 

  • Police Certificates: Some applicants may need to provide police certificates from countries where they have lived. The cost of obtaining these certificates varies by country.
